Last Friday (June 30), the Italian Ambassador to Mozambique, Gianni Bardini, paid a working visit to the headquarters of the Zambezi Agency in the city of Tete.

According to Gianni Bardini, the purpose of the visit was to learn more about the Zambezi Agency’s areas of activity and to explore areas of cooperation.

“We had the impression that the Zambezi Agency was a very special institution. Now we know for sure,” said the chief diplomat, stressing that “we will see where we can work together”.

The Italian government representative in Mozambique also thanked the Zambezi Agency for its willingness to collaborate in the implementation of projects in the Beira Corridor with Italian funding, referring to climate resilience equipment for areas affected by Cyclone Idai, which hit the central part of the country (Tete, Manica, Sofala and Zambezia) in 2019.

On the same occasion, Roberto Albino said that over the 13 years since it was set up, the Zambezi Agency has invested, especially in developing skills, modernizing agriculture, intervening in value chains, financing lines and mobilizing resources.

For the Director General of the Zambezi Agency, the rapprochement with the Italian government aims to create opportunities for partnerships “from the promotion of agricultural production, agro-processing, industrialization, to support for small and medium-sized enterprises”.

It should be noted that the visit by the head of Italian diplomacy in Mozambique took place on the day that the Zambezi Agency celebrated the 13th anniversary of its creation as an entity with the mission of promoting the socio-economic development of the Zambezi Valley region.
