On November 20, the Governor of Manica Province, Francisca Tomas, launched the third lychee marketing campaign in the town of Catandica, in the district of Báruè.

During the event, Francisca Tomas launched a lychee marketing line and delivered two five-ton trucks, which are used to harvest lychee, to the Báruè Fruit Cooperative and four motorcycles to the Báruè and Vanduzi District Economic Activities Services (SDAE) (two each), in order to guarantee technical assistance to producers, according to the official.

Litchi production in Báruè has been boosted by Westfalia, a beneficiary of the first edition of the Catalytic Fund for Innovation and Demonstration (FCID), an instrument of the Mozambican government, with the support of the World Bank, under the coordination of the Zambezi Agency.

FCID’s intervention in westfalia’s project, for an estimated amount of 74 million meticais, made it possible to set up an irrigation system with the capacity to irrigate 337 hectares, supply fertilizers, seedlings, training in good lychee production practices and led to the award of global gap certification.
