The mechanized rice harvest campaign began this Wednesday at the Quinta Girassol Correctional Facility in the Nicoadala District, Zambézia Province.
In this agricultural season, the National Penitentiary Service (SERNAP) in Zambezia cultivated an area of about 20 hectares, expecting to harvest approximately 20 tons of rice.
The initiative is supported by the Zambeze Agency, which provided a tractor with attachments, a motor-pump irrigation system, and various seeds as part of the Socioeconomic Reintegration and Skills Development Project. The project is implemented in coordination with SERNAP and the Civic Services of Mozambique (SCM).
This initiative aims to promote the involvement of the prison population in productive activities, contribute to reducing dependence on the state budget, and lower recidivism rates after the completion of sentences.
