The Director-General of the Zambezi Valley Development Agency (ADVZ), Celso Cunha, argued that the institution must continue to assert itself as a strategic driver for promoting socio-economic development in the Zambezi Valley region and other parts of the country.

Celso Cunha was speaking on Saturday (4 July) in the city of Tete during the ceremony marking the 16th anniversary of the establishment of the ADVZ, an event attended by the Minister for Planning and Development, Salim Valá, and the Minister for Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries, Roberto Albino.

On that occasion, the Director-General highlighted the need to harness and make the most of the region’s existing natural resources, including mineral and energy resources, whilst also advocating for the strengthening of the institution’s capacity to mobilise funding and attract investment that contributes to the sustainable development of the Zambezi Valley and the country.

For his part, the Minister for Planning and Development, Salim Valá, acknowledged the role played by the ADVZ throughout its 16 years of existence, emphasising that the diversification of the institution’s areas of intervention represents a significant boost to the region’s economic and social development.

Also during the ceremony, the Minister for Agriculture, the Environment and Fisheries, Roberto Albino, who headed the ADVZ for 15 years, praised the institution’s contribution to the implementation of public policies and national strategic plans, highlighting the positive impacts achieved not only in the Central region but throughout the country.

Established on 30 June 2010, the Zambezi Valley Development Agency’s mission is to promote the socio-economic development of the national part of the Zambezi River basin by mobilising investment, coordinating development programmes and harnessing the region’s potential.
