Today, during the 6th edition of MOZGROW, which is taking place at the 3D Arena in Katembe, Maputo, the Zambezi Agency shared experiences of supporting the implementation of socio-economic reintegration projects for young people in the Zambezi Valley.

The information was presented in a panel on the theme: Agriculture as a socio-economic reintegration activity: cultivating opportunities and transforming lives.

The panel included the participation of the Civic Service of Mozambique (SCM) and the National Penitentiary Service (SERNAP), partners in the implementation of the Project for the Socio-Economic Reintegration of Young People in the Zambezi Valley Region (INTEGRA), budgeted at 350 million meticais and lasting five years (2023 – 2027).

According to Alcides Nhamatate, head of the Financial Assistance department at the Zambezi Agency, INTEGRA is fundamentally aimed at guaranteeing the integration of young people by strengthening skills and developing sustainable businesses, with a focus on inmates and SCM providers, and strengthening the training programme to institutionalize rehabilitation prisons and youth-sensitive parole systems in the Zambezi Valley region.

SERNAP’s representative, Cremildo Nhancololo, pointed out that, with the support of the Zambezi Agency, the volume of production has grown considerably as a result of the allocation of agricultural equipment and the commitment of the trainers.

Augusto Novo, from SCM, said that the partnership with the Zambezi Agency enables providers to take a kit to start their own business.

The event was attended by representatives of various public and private bodies working in agribusiness, students and others.
