Zambezi Agency invests 350 million meticais in socio-economic reintegration project for young people

The Socio-Economic Reintegration Project for Young People in the Zambezi Valley (INTEGRA), valued at 350 million meticais, was launched today in Tete City.

INTEGRA is an initiative of the Zambezi Agency in partnership with the Mozambican Civic Service and the National Penitentiary Service (SERNAP) with the aim of ensuring the integration of young people through the strengthening of skills and the development of sustainable businesses, with a focus on inmates and civic service trainees, and strengthening the training program to institutionalize rehabilitation prisons and youth-sensitive parole systems in the Zambezi Valley region.

The project will last five years and is expected to cover 17 units in the provinces of Tete, Manica, Sofala and Zambézia (covered by the Zambezi Valley region), 10 of which will be from SERNAP and seven from SCM, through interventions in the areas of agriculture (vegetables and cereals), livestock (poultry), metalwork, carpentry and dressmaking.

The Secretary of State for Tete Province, Elisa Zacarias, handed over tractors and the respective agricultural implements (supported by the Zambezi Agency) to the SCMs and SERNAP.

The event was witnessed by representatives of the Provincial Executive Council; the State Representation Council in the Province; the Provincial Business Council; staff from the Zambezi Agency, SERNAP, SCM, some inmates and service providers (from SCM).
