The Director-General of the Zambeze Agency, Celso Cunha, met today in Chimoio with representatives of the private sector in Manica Province.
The meeting with business leaders forms part of the consultation process the Zambezi Agency is undertaking to assess the challenges facing the business community, share information on available funding streams, and present proposals for support mechanisms for the private sector to be incorporated into the Strategic Plan for the Redevelopment of the Zambezi Valley Region (PROZAMBEZE).
According to Cunha, under PROZAMBEZE, it is anticipated that around 600 million US dollars will be mobilised to support economic and social development initiatives in the sectors of agriculture, tourism, mineral resources, infrastructure and logistics, including the financing of business initiatives.
The Chairman of the Manica Provincial Business Council (CEP-Manica), Alcides Cintura, considered that the proposal presented by the Zambezi Agency reflects the real potential of the four provinces in the country’s central region.
Cintura argued for the need for strategic coordination with business councils in order to improve the business environment, support the private sector and facilitate access to finance.
