The Director General of the Zambezi Agency, Roberto Albino, yesterday launched a program called Mangwana – which means “tomorrow” in the local languages spoken along the Beira corridor – in the Vanduzi District of Manica.

Mangwana, which will be implemented in 12 districts in the provinces of Manica and Sofala, will last for four years and has an overall budget of 30 million euros, financed by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

According to Roberto Albino, the program will help improve food and nutrition security and facilitate access to a secure market.

“It will enable sustainable income for small producers in the strategic value chains of rice, vegetables, potatoes, beans, fruit and poultry”.

The Director General of the Zambezi Agency also pointed out that “the Mangwana program brings investment access to young people, small producers and MSMEs through a grant budgeted at 6 million euros, in order to strengthen their productive capacity affected by the adversities that have occurred in the recent past such as: cyclones, floods and COVID19”.

The program will be implemented by a consortium made up of TechnoServe, Resilience, the Zambezi Valley Development Agency (Zambezi Agency) and the Manica Province Economic Development Agency (ADEM).

The Mangwana launch ceremony was attended by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Mozambique, Elsbeth Akkerman, representatives of the governments of the provinces of Manica and Sofala, the private sector and others.
