The Governor of Zambézia Province called on the Zambeze Agency to support the implementation of programs aimed at promoting the inclusive and sustainable exploitation of mineral resources in that part of the country.
Speaking today in Quelimane during a meeting in his office with the Director-General of the Zambezi Agency, Celso Cunha—who presented the agency’s current vision, which advocates for integrated intervention across various sectors such as agriculture, tourism, mineral resources, forestry, infrastructure, and logistics—Pio Matos made this appeal.
“It is worth thinking this way,” the minister began, adding that we must “move away from the idea that only agriculture drives growth.”
Regarding the sectors of intervention, the minister called for greater inclusion of local communities in the process of mineral resource exploitation.
“I believe that, as a country, we must begin to adopt projects that involve communities more,” he emphasized.
“With the Zambeze Agency, we can develop a very interesting program focused on organizing artisanal mining in Zambézia, creating cooperatives and associations, and structuring the sector,” he recommended.
“We, as a state, must organize the sector, exploit resources without fear, and benefit the people while avoiding conflict,” said Pio Matos.
