The Zambezi Agency and Zambezi University (UNIZAMBEZE), signed today, in Tete City, a memorandum of understanding aiming the implantation of a Veterinary Faculty in the central zone of the country (Tete, Manica, Sofala and Zambezia).

The two institutions engaged in promoting development in the Zambezi Valley look at human capital training as an important factor for improving the competitiveness of national products and improving the living conditions of the population.

Speaking at the occasion, the Rector of UNIZAMBEZE, Bettencourt Capece, considered that the implementation of a veterinary college can improve the assistance to animal breeders, considering the shortage of veterinarians in almost all districts of the central and northern region of the country.

“It is in the animal production where the development, the transformation, the improvement of the life condition of the population is and we can overcome the malnutrition that is observed in a region as productive as ours”- referred the rector underlining that “with the human capital, we develop, we transform, and we have a future”.

In the same occasion, the Director General of the Zambezi Agency, Roberto Albino, defended that this educational institution will be able to improve the production capacity and the competitiveness of the national products.

“We can only compete and reduce imports if we start producing with the same quality as the competition”- said Roberto Albino, highlighting that “this requires the know-how that will come from this veterinary college”.

The choice of the City of Chimoio is due to the fact that it has a potential for poultry and cattle production, allied to its geographical location that facilitates the connection with the Province of Tete that has high goat production and Zambézia that needs cattle restocking.
