Chamisso Chikwizo has been at Chingodzi Prison since 14 April 2016. She says that, whilst serving her sentence at this facility, she has learnt agricultural and poultry farming techniques. She has also completed training in electrical engineering and construction.
She is a woman who looks to the future with hope and intends to put her learning to good use after her release, to support herself and her family.
“In here, I’ve learnt a lot of things, mainly about agriculture. I’ve been trained in poultry production and rearing. When I get out of prison, I want to put this knowledge into practice, particularly in agriculture, by cultivating small plots of land to ensure my livelihood and start a new life,” she explained.
These activities are supported by the Zambezi Valley Development Agency through the Socio-Economic Reintegration Project in the Zambezi Valley Region, also known as INTEGRA, implemented in coordination with the National Prison Service and the Civic Services of Mozambique.
INTEGRA aims to ease the strain on the state budget and ensure food supplies and nutritional standards in prisons and national defence force units. Furthermore, it seeks to facilitate social reintegration through the development of practical skills and expertise, as well as to combat recidivism.
