Academics and members of civil society argued that investing in the development of human capital is of paramount importance for ensuring the socio-economic development of the Central Region and, above all, of the country.
This view was expressed on Friday (7 August) in the city of Tete, during yet another consultation session on the Central Region Development Plan, PRO-ZAMBEZE 2026–2035.
The meeting, which brought together academics and members of civil society, was chaired by Albertina Uamusse, the provincial delegate of the Zambezi Valley Development Agency (ADVZ) in Tete.
Albertina Uamusse emphasised, on that occasion, the importance of involving different sectors of society in the drafting of the document. She stressed.
“It is essential to bring together different stakeholders from society to gather more ideas and opinions, with a view to enriching our Central Region Development Plan, which is a document that forms part of the National Development Strategy,” she said.
The participants emphasised the commitment to establishing business incubators and providing higher-quality basic and technical-vocational training, with a greater focus on developing practical skills and know-how.
According to the participants, these measures could help to enhance the value of the workforce, stimulate entrepreneurship and create greater opportunities for generating employment and income.
Agricultural mechanisation, improvements to road networks to facilitate the transport of produce from production units to commercial areas, as well as incentives for self-employment, were also highlighted as important aspects for the development of the Central Region.
The contributions made by academics and civil society will be taken into account in the process of drafting PRO-ZAMBEZE 2026–2035, a framework designed to guide investment and development priorities in the Central Region for the coming decade.
