The Director-General of the Zambeze Agency announced that around 70 million meticais will be made available to support the agricultural sector in the central region of the country, which has been ravaged by the floods and inundations currently affecting the country.

Celso Cunha noted that the funds will be directed towards the purchase of specific agricultural equipment and inputs.

“For small and medium-sized enterprises, we are creating funding schemes through grants,” said Cunha, adding that “we will also open another line of credit financing, but with extremely subsidised interest rates”.

The official explained that the Zambeze Agency and the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries are developing support mechanisms for the agricultural sector, to be implemented in the central region of the country, with funding from external partners.

It should be noted that these initiatives aim to promote economic recovery and the sector’s resilience in the face of extreme weather events.
