The Zambeze Agency has joined the solidarity campaign launched by the First Lady of Mozambique, Gueta Chapo, in support of the communities affected by the floods ravaging the country.
Today, in Guara-Guara, Búzi District, Sofala Province, the agency provided around 50 tonnes of various goods, notably: 16 tonnes of rice, six tonnes of butter beans, 500 cartons of juice, and the same number of packets of biscuits.
Two thousand five hundred blankets, school kits for a thousand children (consisting of exercise books, pencils, pens, erasers, pencil sharpeners and rulers), and ten balls for recreational activities were also delivered.
The Director-General, Celso Cunha, stated that, as part of the immediate response and transition to recovery, a survey of social infrastructure (health facilities and classrooms) is currently being carried out in coordination with local authorities, which may be addressed with the support of the Zambeze Agency.
Celso Cunha also emphasised that, in coordination with the IOM (International Organisation for Migration) and local authorities, the drafting of a detailed plan for Guara-Guara, aimed at the safe and orderly resettlement of the population, which will consist of opening access roads, demarcating plots of land, and establishing an integrated water and energy supply system.
